MP3 players
When Lil Wayne came out with the first Dedication mixtape with DJ Drama, we still used CDs, but MP3 technology was gaining popularity. DatPiff was where I went to, finding all types of mixtapes and remixes I didn't know existed.
After smartphones replaced stand-alone MP3 players like iPod, they all advertised how many songs it could hold as one of the selling points. They knew people loved having their music on demand, but they had a problem.
The music on most people's phones was free.
Whether you downloaded a free mixtape, or illegally downloaded from Torrent sites, or music that you bought legally on a CD and put on your phone, they had no way of making money on that music on your phone.
They had to change that.
I remember getting a new phone back then and transferring all my music to it easily. Then they got rid of the MP3 players that used to come free with Android phones. It was a shock to me, but then we saw the replacement: Spotify and The Apple Music store, which used to be iTunes, an enhanced MP3 player. You could still download a MP3 player, but you either had to pay for the full version or deal with ads.
Well, now is the time to start using those downloadable MP3 players. Streaming services don't pay the majority of the people who provide them with music, and the ones who do get paid are get fractions of a penny per stream. They are promoting AI music and prioritizing it in some cases over real music. Spotifys owner is even involved in investing in murder drones. Sounds crazy, but it's true.
If you a fan of any artist, consider seeing if they have their own website that you can download their music from. If they do, support them by downloading directly from them. If they don't, ask them in comments on their videos about making a website. Keep asking them until they do it.
It's time for you to start owning the music on your phone again. Streaming services have too much control over what you can and can't listen to. Even YouTube, although better, has it's many issues. It's better to just be able to download it and listen to it whenever you want.
And on that note, check out the shop and download my music! I have a new song I just recorded a couple of days ago, called “Out The Loop”, and I want you to get it. The lyric video is on YouTube and IG right now.
And that's all I have to say right now.
